Holly Ortiz: Creating Warm, Timeless Homes Through Thoughtful Design

From Home Staging to Full-Service Interior Design

What began as a passion project quickly evolved into a thriving design business.

Michigan-based designer Holly Ortiz, founder of Holly Marie Designs, first entered the design world in 2016 through home staging. As she transformed homes for sale, homeowners began asking for help decorating and furnishing their own spaces. That demand inspired Holly to return to school to study interior design before officially launching Holly Marie Designs in 2021.

Today, her work is known for blending organic textures, timeless materials, and natural warmth to create spaces that feel welcoming, layered, and deeply personal.

Seeing the Vision Come to Life

For Holly, one of the most rewarding moments happens long before installation begins.

Presenting renderings allows clients to see their future home for the first time—watching individual materials, finishes, and furnishings come together into one cohesive vision. That excitement only grows once the project is complete and clients experience their transformed space firsthand.

Transforming a Builder-Grade Bathroom Without a Full Renovation

Not every beautiful space starts with a complete renovation.

When Holly purchased her own spec home, the primary bathroom felt functional—but impersonal. Cool gray finishes, builder-grade selections, and minimal texture left the room feeling disconnected from the warm, layered aesthetic she naturally gravitates toward.

Rather than gutting the entire bathroom, Holly challenged herself to work with what already existed.

Before

The existing bathroom featured cool gray cabinetry, white surfaces, and clean lines. While relatively new, the space lacked warmth, texture, and character.

Because Holly typically begins projects from scratch, designing within existing finishes became an entirely new creative exercise.

Instead of replacing everything, she focused on introducing materials that could bridge the cool palette with warmer finishes.

The Material That Changed Everything

Holly immediately knew the answer would be Marin in Coastal Cliff.

Its handcrafted surface and nuanced color variation gave the bathroom exactly what it was missing: warmth, movement, and depth.

What makes Marin especially unique, according to Holly, is its versatility.

"It's almost like a chameleon. Paired with warmer woods and brass finishes, it pulls warm taupe undertones. With cooler grays, it leans softer and more gray."

That adaptability allowed the tile to seamlessly connect the existing finishes with Holly's updated vision.

Details That Make A Difference

The glossy surface catches natural light beautifully while the handcrafted variation creates subtle movement across the walls.

Combined with brass lighting, organic greenery, and warm wood-framed mirrors, Marin transforms the room into a layered retreat that feels elevated without overwhelming the space.

A Space That Finally Felt Like Home

The completed bathroom proves that meaningful transformations don't always require complete demolition.

Sometimes the right material has the power to completely redefine a room.

"It's proof that sometimes the right material can completely transform a space without tearing everything out and starting over."

Looking Ahead

Holly continues to specify Marin in new projects—including two bathrooms for a pair of brothers, each using a different colorway from the collection.

One features Midnight Tide, while the other showcases Black Sea. Though they're from the same collection, each creates a completely unique personality.

She's also excited about another Bedrosians favorite.

"Node is completely my style. I love the organic texture, movement, and warmth it brings to a space. It feels collected, natural, and timeless."

Holly's Go-To Design Philosophy

Thoughtful design doesn't have to begin with a blank slate.

By layering timeless materials, natural textures, and carefully selected finishes, Holly creates homes that feel authentic to the people who live in them—proving that sometimes the biggest transformations begin with just one beautiful material.
